Finnish bicycle – since 1905
Helkama is a more than 100-year-old Finnish family company that manufactures modern high-quality e-bikes and bicycles in Finland. Our Hanko plant produces more than 25,000 bikes every year, ranging from city bicycles to mountain bikes, but today we focus on being a trendsetter in e-biking in particular.

Helkama Made in Hanko
Our plant produces more than 25,000 bicycles annually, and if all of the more than 400,000 Jopo bikes made in Hanko alone were put in a row, they would extend from Hanko to Oulu. The Airline production line allows for a fast and efficient pace of work. Two employees can work on the same bicycle at the same time. The production of our plant includes both e-bikes and traditional bicycles. In addition to our long-term heritage, we are proud of our know-how, what it takes to make a high-quality and finished bike.
In our product development, we take into account the demanding weather conditions in Finland, such as slush and freezing temperatures, and we always give a five-year warranty on bike frames. We also invest in excellent handling – without forgetting design and state-of-the-art technology.

Craftsmanship
In order to guarantee the quality and modern and appropriate design of our products, as well as excellent handling, we design the bikes to withstand demanding northern weather conditions and the needs of the Finnish cyclist. Today, we are the only company still manufacturing bicycles in Finland.
The same segment was also translated as: We are especially proud that the production of Helkama bikes is Finnish craftsmanship, which is backed by real people. Each of our e-bikes goes through an average of 20 skilled pairs of hands on its journey from components to the finished product.

Action on behalf of Finnish work
All Helkama bicycles are designed in Hanko, Finland, with a long experience in the bicycle industry. The majority of our range is manufactured at our plant in Hanko: all e-bikes, Jopo bicycles, our traditional standard bikes such as Aino and Oiva, Ainotar, Saana and Jääkäri, and professional products.

DESIGN AND MODERN TECHNOLOGY
Our long-term experience can be seen and felt in every Helkama we make, and we are also a trailblazer in e-cycling these days. Our range includes a comprehensive selection of e-bikes for all needs and purposes, from off-road to city, from gravel to asphalt, from commuting to leisure riding, and for all ages from children to senior citizens.

Sustainability at Helkama
At Helkama, we want to make people move sustainably. We pay special attention to sustainable production, a responsible supply chain and healthy employees. To achieve our sustainability goals, we work closely with a wide range of suppliers and recycling partners.
Our bicycle plant operates on fully fossil-free energy and we strive to produce as little waste as possible. Producer communities like Recser, Elker, and Rinki help us to recycle the materials used in production so that bicycle components and materials can continue their circulation in a new form. Currently, we are able to recycle 92% of factory materials for reuse. In addition, our packaging materials are always carefully considered and recyclable. Helkama bicycles are made with solar power. The roof of the Helkama plant features the biggest solar power plant in Hanko.
Our goal is to produce durable and long-lasting products that bring joy year after year, from one cyclist to another. The life cycle of the final product is maximised with good availability of spare parts and our comprehensive and professional service network.

Helkama supports children and young people
The goal of SOS Children’s Village is to help the most vulnerable children and young people and to increase the well-being of families with children in Finland.
Helkama is involved in supporting children and young people together with SOS Children’s Village. SOS Children’s Village performs significant child protection, advocacy and development work. The goal of SOS Children’s Village is for families with children facing difficulties to receive the help and support they need as early as possible and for the children to be able to live with their own parents. If growing up in the child’s own home is not possible despite the support, SOS Children’s Village can offer the child the opportunity to grow up in a safe foster family and with the support of a multidisciplinary community.
Helkama Velox’s choice of charity is SOS Children’s Village, which promotes the well-being of children, young people and families with children. Helkama Velox donates bicycles to children and young people in the children’s villages and wishes them delight, freedom and joy of living with Helkama bicycles. Having one’s own bicycle plays a big role in the new, better future of a child who has grown up in challenging conditions. The child’s own bike offers independence and freedom, expands their territory, strengthens self-esteem, increases their own control over their lives, makes it easier to integrate into their own immediate surroundings, as well as increases the volume of exercise and recreational opportunities.
Helkama’s history
We are a Finnish family business founded in 1905. Oiva, Aino, Jopo and other legendary Helkama models are an integral part of Finnish life, and we have had in-house bike production at our plant in Hanko since 1953. Since the beginning of our history, Helkama has been synonymous with quality, durability and mobility.
Originating in the merchant activities of Helkama’s founder Heikki J. Helkama, operations have branched out in many directions over the years. Helkama Velox, which manufactures, imports and markets bikes, belongs to the Helkama Emotor family business group, as does Helkama Bica, which manufactures cables, and Adwatec, which manufactures water cooling systems for power electronics. Helkama companies also include Helkama-Auto, which imports Skoda and operates the Avis and Budget car rental companies, and Helkama-Kiinteistöt Oy, which is engaged in real estate business.
1905
Heikki J. Hellman founds a company that sells sewing machines, iron beds and bicycles in Tampere.
Heikki J. Helkama’s quote from 1909:
“…By only offering first-class goods to my distinguished buyers, I have placed myself above all inferior competition. I have lowered the prices to be as cheap as possible for really good bicycles. I think that everyone’s experience has shown that good is always expensive and that expensive is always cheap in the long run.”

Helkama moves to Vyborg.
