Helkama is a more than 100-year-old Finnish family company that manufactures modern high-quality e-bikes and bicycles in Finland. Our Hanko plant produces more than 25,000 bikes every year, ranging from city bicycles to mountain bikes, but today we focus on being a trendsetter in e-biking in particular.
We want to spread the joy of e-biking and uphold our values of reliability, quality and responsibility in everything we do. Our long-term experience and love of cycling can be seen and felt in every Helkama we make. We are especially proud that the production of Helkama bikes is Finnish craftsmanship, which is backed by real people. Each of our e-bikes goes through an average of 20 skilled pairs of hands on its journey from components to the finished product.
In our product development, we take into account the demanding weather conditions in Finland, such as slush and freezing temperatures, and we always give a five-year warranty on bike frames. We also invest in excellent handling – not forgetting design and state-of-the-art technology.
The Airline production line allows for a fast and efficient pace of work. Two employees can work on the same bicycle at the same time.
Sustainability at Helkama
At Helkama, we want to make people move sustainably. We pay special attention to sustainable production, a responsible supply chain and healthy employees. To achieve our sustainability goals, we work closely with a wide range of suppliers and recycling partners.
Our bicycle plant operates on fully fossil-free energy and we strive to produce as little waste as possible. Producer communities like Recser, Elker, and Rinki help us to recycle the materials used in production so that bicycle components and materials can continue their circulation in a new form. Currently, we are able to recycle 92% of factory materials for reuse. In addition, our packaging materials are always carefully considered and recyclable.
Our goal is to produce durable and long-lasting products that bring joy year after year, from one cyclist to another. The life cycle of the final product is maximised with good availability of spare parts and our comprehensive and professional service network.
Helkama bicycles are made with solar power. The roof of the Helkama plant features the biggest solar power plant in Hanko.
The popularity of e-biking is increasing
According to a Helkama survey, more than one in two Finns consider an e-bike to be a viable option for commuting. Many Finns are interested in the benefits of commuting by bicycle, such as exercise and the freedom to choose schedules and routes as they wish. However, a company bike is not limited to commuting, but is intended for all riding, including leisure rides.
According to a survey, 53% of Finns are interested in getting an e-bike as a company vehicle. About 2% already have an e-bike as an employer-provided vehicle. One in two respondents say that they think it would be possible to commute by e-bike. According to the survey, one in ten Finns already lives in a household where the need for another car has been met with an e-bike.
The survey was carried out by Syno International as an Omnibus survey between 1 and 7 June 2023. A total of 1,002 Finns over the age of 18 responded to the survey online. The sample is demographically representative of the population.
Multi-purpose in a modern way
We continuously develop the components, technology and ride comfort of our bicycles. The low step-through frame of the bicycle is suited for everyone and makes it easy to lift your foot over the frame. The slightly wider 27.5-inch tyre brings stability on dirt roads and trails, but also works great on snow.
The new Shimano EP6 drive unit of the CX 10 city e-bike offers powerful assist, and the stylishly frame-integrated battery has a long life. The high-quality front suspension and Shimano gear set, specifically designed for high-end city and commuter bicycles, adds sense to the bicycle. Even though the CX 10 is comprehensive in terms of standard equipment, it can be accessorised as an even more versatile bike for longer trips with, for example, a front basket, rear basket and a bag suitable for the rear basket.
Electrified classics
Classic bikes have been in our range for a long time – and for a good reason! They are all-time favourites as their design stands the test of time, but they are also excellent in terms of ride comfort. The upright riding position is suitable for many, the airy tyres make riding comfortable and the accessory level allows for versatile transport solutions.
e-Aino is certainly one of the most convenient e-bikes with a coaster brake for casual urban riding. It features wide tyres and the easy-to-use Shimano Steps system. The high-quality Shimano E5000 mid-drive motor smoothly assists you on your journey. The seven-speed e-Aino is equipped with front and rear lights, an easy-to-read display, a sturdy front basket, a dress guard and a frame lock. The rack-mounted battery is easy to remove and has enough power with 418 Wh to power even longer commutes and grocery trips.
Perfect bicycles for commuting
Hybrid bikes are great for exercising, touring and fast commuting. Hybrid bikes combine both the speedy features of mountain bikes and the narrower tyres characteristic of touring bikes. Commuting is swift with a hybrid bike, as it can be easily accessorised as necessary.
Helkama SX is a sporty electric hybrid bike for longer commutes and leisure rides, whatever the surface and weather. The bike has a battery integrated in the frame. The SX hybrid e-bike is equipped with the Shimano Linkglide drive system, which ensures seamless gear changes and smooth riding. Linkglide technology reduces wear and tear in the drive system and reduces jolting and jumping when changing gears. In addition, the bicycle features FOX AWL 100 mm front suspension to guarantee excellent riding comfort on pavement and gravel roads alike.
Enjoyable rides
Fatbikes are known for their wide tyres, which offer good grip and stability even in more challenging conditions, such as sand, snow or muddy routes. Wide tyres distribute the weight over a wider area, preventing the tyre from sinking into the soil. In an e-fatbike, these features are combined with electromobility, making even long trips possible. An e-fatbike also allows for effortless commuting in winter.
The FE10 e-fatbike is suited for any weather, and it is designed to overcome all obstacles on an off-road trail, such as roots and rocks. With a rigid fork and large wheels, the bike gets an extra boost from the super-powerful motor and can go on longer adventures due to its large battery capacity. The frame and front fork feature fittings for various racks, so the bicycle is also well suited for touring.
