For transport, the bicycle is packed in a box preassembled. This means that after receiving the bike, the customer must make the bicycle ready to ride. In most cases, this means at least installing the pedals and setting the saddle and the handlebar in the correct position, but other parts requiring assembly may include the front wheel and adjusting the brakes and gears, depending on the packaging method. It is also important to check the tyre pressure and add air, if necessary. The tools required for these operations are not delivered with the bicycle. If you need help with assembling the product, please turn to expert Helkama dealers .
During the first hundreds of kilometres of run-in, the factory-installed spokes, cables and bolts of the bicycle may loosen. In the first service, the expert workshop checks the general condition of the bicycle and ensures that it is adjusted to perfect riding condition after the run-in. This will keep your bike in good condition and ensure a fun and safe ride. Helkama recommends a first service for every new bicycle. Ask for more information about first service at the nearest bike shop/workshop.
Helkama’s authorised warranty service points can be found in the dealer search here. In the list, you can identify the warranty service points by the H coat of arms. You can also narrow down the list to warranty service points only.
Authorised warranty workshops maintain all brands sold by Helkama, regardless of the place of purchase. In addition to traditional bicycles, maintenance is available for e-bikes with Shimano and Bosch technology.
Often, your bike can be serviced by a Helkama dealer. Otherwise, the dealer can advise the nearest authorised Helkama service. You should have your bicycle serviced at least once a year, for example every autumn, when there is no congestion at bike workshops and the bike will ready for riding in the spring. If you drive all year round, autumn maintenance is even more important – you can also have winter tyres fitted at the same time.

Spare parts for Helkama bikes are sold by dealers around Finland. Spare parts cannot be purchased directly from Helkama. You can find all Helkama dealers here.
If you have the number for your key, you can order a key directly from AXA’s Online Key Service at: keyservice.axasecurity.com. If you need a Trelock key, you can order it directly from the Trelock Key Service täältä. If the lock is YWS/CSI-branded, the key can be ordered here. If the serial number of the key is lost, the lock must be replaced. The most convenient way to do this is to take the bike to your Helkama dealer. If the lock on the bicycle is something other than Axa, Basta, Trelock or YWS, contact your Helkama dealer.
The frame number can be found stamped under the paint in bicycles with a steel or aluminium frame. The frame number can be difficult to find under the paint, we recommend using a flashlight when looking for the number. On carbon fiber frames, the frame number is printed on the frame surface. In e-bikes, the frame number can be found on either side or top of the drive unit mount, on the head tube (the vertical tube between the front fork and the handlebar), behind the seat post, in the rear fork, or in front of the drive unit mount below the down tube. On traditional bicycles, the frame number can be found on the head tube (the vertical tube between the front fork and the handlebar), or under the sleeve of the bottom bracket (where the pedal cranks are attached).
If the tyre punctures from the same point frequently, it is advisable to investigate the fault in more detail. The reason may be a stone chip inside the outer tyre, which has rubbed through the inner tube. The reason may also be a sharp stone chip or a piece of glass that has penetrated the outer tyre and stuck to it. So, also examine the outer tyre and wipe the inside of the outer tyre clean of any debris. Also check the rim tape: a slipped or bad rim tape should be replaced at the same time.
The crushed rock aggregate used for sanding bicycle paths these days has glass-sharp edges and the pieces adhere to the soft tyre material, easily rubbing a hole in it. The most certain way to avoid unpleasant flat tyres is to use puncture-resistant tyre products, such as Schwalbe puncture-resistant tyres, available from your Helkama dealer.
All Helkama bicycles are designed in Hanko, Finland, with a long experience in the bicycle industry. The majority of our range is still manufactured at our plant in Hanko: all e-bikes, Jopo bicycles, our traditional standard bikes such as Aino and Oiva, Ainotar, Saana and Jääkäri, and professional products. Products made in Hanko can be recognised by the made in Hanko brand.
No actual weight limits have been defined for our bicycles. The most important thing is to take care of tyre pressures and pay attention to the correct riding style, taking into account, for example, going over kerbs and the condition of the road. Even a lightweight person can break a bicycle with the wrong way of riding. In order to keep your bicycle in good condition, you should also have it serviced at regular intervals, preferably twice a year.
Go to the section user manuals where you can download the user manual for your bike.
You can ride up to 150 km on a single full charge, depending on the battery model. However, remember that factors like terrain or the weather can have a significant impact on the range.
When storing the battery for a long time, take the following into account:
- Keep in a cool place indoors where the temperature is between 10–20°C
- Avoid direct exposure to sunlight or rain
- Charge the battery to approximately 70% before warehousing
- Charge the battery to approximately 70% once every six months
- Before reusing the battery, charge it to full charge
How fast will battery capacity drop?
As with all modern batteries, the capacity of the batteries decreases due to charging. Shimano guarantees that the battery capacity will be 60% after 1,000 recharges. The dealer can determine the remaining battery capacity.
Do not use the battery outside of this temperature range. If the battery is used or stored above or below the indicated temperature range, a malfunction may occur.
Battery operating temperature ranges:
1. During discharge: -10°C to 50°C
2. During charging: 0°C–40°C
The Shimano power button, and display with a power button, has an internal battery. The power button wakes up the bicycle battery electrically, if the power button (or display) does not have enough power, it cannot wake up the bicycle battery, and the bicycle will not start. The internal battery of the power button/display is charged when the bicycle is powered on or the bicycle battery is charged while mounted on the bicycle. The service shop can also charge the internal battery via the Shimano E-TUBE program. Freezing temperatures can reduce the capacity of the power button battery so that it is unable to start the bicycle.
If the bicycle has a removable display with a power button, we recommend storing the display in a warm place. In this case, the battery level should not deteriorate to the point that the bicycle does not start. The bike can also be started directly from the battery if it is not an integrated battery.
If the bicycle has a power button on the frame and an integrated battery, we have added a start hole protected with a rubber nipple on the down tube, above the battery. Through it, the bicycle battery can be started using an object with a maximum diameter of 2.5 mm (such as a hex key).
